Stereotypes that define “US” the case of muslim women

Stereotypes that define “US” the case of Muslim women a paper by Eero Janson, a masters student in comparative politices, University of Tartu Estonia.

This paper is about the stereotypes that defines Muslim women such as, hijab, burqa, Islamic religious practices and Islamic identity. This paper uses several countries such as, Belgium, Germany, and France, that have gone so far to ban different clothing associated with Islam. It talks about how the western society assumes that Muslim women are forced to wear Muslim religious clothing, and they take it as a sign that these Muslim women may help.

This paper asked questions such as, what kind of picture is painted of Islam in West? How are Muslim women depicted in the west? What does this tell us about the West itself?

I have found this paper online, once reading through this I was very unsure of what I will gain from this. Paper is in two sections that talks about, The emancipation of Muslim Women, The protection of Western Values. Why I had thought to read this paper is because my project is based on the stereotypes of Muslim women and this paper has proven that how Muslim women are portrayed in the western society.
